Mitch Marner leads Vegas Golden Knights to Western Conference Final
Mitch Marner has been one of the biggest stories of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Everyone knew he was an elite NHL player, but his postseason play in Toronto drew heavy criticism. That changed once he left.
Marner scored just over a minute into Game 6 against the Anaheim Ducks. Vegas won 5-1 and advanced to face the Colorado Avalanche.
The goal was his seventh of the playoffs. He leads all players with 18 points, three ahead of Quinn Hughes and Kirill Kaprizov.
Toronto has not won the Stanley Cup since 1967 and went nearly 20 years between series wins from 2004 to 2023. Marner arrived in Vegas last summer through a sign-and-trade.
Similar moves worked out for former Maple Leafs players. Phil Kessel won a Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh the season after he was traded. Nazem Kadri won one with Colorado a couple of seasons after leaving Toronto.
Marner left at the right time.
