Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh snapped a 38-at-bat hitless streak Tuesday with a pair of singles.

After walking, striking out and flying out in his first three plate appearances, Raleigh had matched Major League Baseball's longest single-season hitless streak since Craig Counsell went 0-for-45 in 2011. The catcher finished second to Aaron Judge in last year's American League MVP vote after hitting a Seattle-record 60 home runs.

Raleigh broke the slump with a single to center field in the top of the seventh inning. He added another single to left in the ninth.

Teammate Logan Gilbert suggested washing off bad mojo from the baseball gods. Pitcher Bryan Woo told reporters that Raleigh showered in full uniform Monday night.

"Logan gave me some good advice to wash off the bad mojo or juju from the baseball gods," Raleigh said. "So yeah, it worked. He was right, so I got to give him credit where credit’s due."

Manager Dan Wilson said, "We were all screaming for him and it was a lot of relief for sure and I know it felt good for Cal."

Raleigh took a foul tip near his manhood during the game. He led the American League last season with 60 home runs and 125 RBIs but is batting .166 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs in 40 games this year.

Raleigh recalled Derek Jeter's famous gold thong stunt at Jason Giambi's urging to end a 0-for-32 slump. Jeter homered while wearing it.
