Knicks Sweep Cavaliers 130-93 to Reach First NBA Finals Since 1999
The New York Knicks routed the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 on Sunday to complete a four-game sweep and reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.
New York led by double digits from the opening minutes and never let Cleveland back into the game. The Knicks made 19 of 43 three-pointers and controlled the boards throughout.
Clay Travis, founder of OutKick, posted on X that the Cavaliers had quit after a fourth-quarter collapse in Game 1. "The Cavs just totally quit this series after the fourth-quarter collapse in Game 1. Embarrassing effort since then," he wrote. "Congrats to the Knicks, party like it’s 1999."
With more than eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, Cleveland coach Kenny Atkinson pulled his starters. Atkinson later told reporters that the Cavaliers had "analytically" won two of the first three games.
Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jalen Brunson ran the offense without a turnover. Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points, but the Knicks defense limited Cleveland’s perimeter attack for the fourth straight game.
The win gave New York its sixth consecutive road playoff victory. The Knicks enter the Finals on an undefeated streak of more than a month after hiring Mike Brown to replace Tom Thibodeau.
New York will face either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs when the NBA Finals open June 3.
