Houston Restaurateur Kills Pregnant Wife, Two Children and Himself in Apparent Murder-Suicide

A wealthy restaurateur and former pharmaceutical CEO fatally shot his pregnant wife and two young children before taking his own life in an apparent murder-suicide, Texas authorities said.

Police and family members confirmed that Houston restaurant owners Matthew Mitchell, 52, his pregnant wife Thy Mitchell, 39, their 8-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son were found dead by a babysitter in their home around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Officials said the father appears to have killed his wife and children before shooting himself, according to FOX 26 Houston.

The children were found dead in their beds, but it remains unclear when the four people died, Houston Fire Department officials said.

Matthew Mitchell owned and operated Traveler’s Table. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and studied in France, Italy and at Oxford University in England, according to the company’s website.

After working as a journalist in London, Paris and New York City, Mitchell entered the pharmaceutical industry. He served as president and CEO of Texas Center for Drug Development, Inc. More than a decade later, he opened his first restaurant.

Thy Mitchell co-owned Traveler’s Table and served on the board of the Texas Restaurant Association’s Houston chapter. A first-generation Vietnamese-American who grew up in Houston, she graduated from the University of Houston and Penn State University.

She held human relations leadership roles at three Fortune 500 companies in the hospitality and retail industries, the website said.

The family lived in River Oaks, an affluent Houston suburb known for luxury real estate.

Traveler’s Table’s publicist did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
