Former Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull won the Republican nomination for New Mexico governor.

Hull defeated businessman Doug Turner and former New Mexico Human Services Secretary Duke Rodriguez. He campaigned on public safety, government experience and economic growth.

Turner presented himself as a business-minded conservative focused on jobs and education reform. Rodriguez, a healthcare executive, stressed addiction treatment, healthcare and government reform.

Hull said New Mexico needs tougher policies on violent crime, fentanyl trafficking and border security. He criticized Democratic leadership in Santa Fe.

Hull will face former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, a Democrat, in the November general election. Republicans are trying to win the governor’s office for the first time since 2019.

The race is to replace term-limited Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
