Florida Mom Arrested for Kicking Child at Youth Football Game
A Florida mother was arrested Saturday after she allegedly kicked a child during a youth football game at Brooks Park in Fort Myers, authorities said.
Renee Lambert faces charges of child abuse without great bodily harm and resisting an officer. Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office took her into custody after she ran onto the field during a Pop Warner game and kicked a juvenile player.
Officers working security at the park responded to a fight that broke out between players after a play. Video reviewed by police captured Lambert charging onto the field and striking the child, according to the sheriff’s office.
Lambert told investigators a child hit her with a helmet, but evidence did not support that claim.
Bodycam footage shows deputies confronting Lambert amid profanity. "So you're mad at them for hitting me?" she asks.
"I’m mad at an adult for attacking a kid," the officer replies.
"Stop! You’re detained right now," the officer says later.
"No I’m not. Goodbye… get your hands off me," Lambert responds.
"You are being pointed out as being a suspect right now — you’re detained," the officer repeats.
She then demands, "Where's number nine? Go get number nine."
"A kid?" the officer asks.
"Yes."
"You’re an adult," he says.
The video ends with deputies struggling to handcuff her amid the chaos.
In a separate case last month, Amanda Thorpe, 33, of Lake Mary, was charged with child neglect by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said she left her 12-year-old daughter alone at a bar in Universal CityWalk to drink at another location.
