Delta Goodrem Qualifies Australia for Eurovision 2026 Grand Final

Standing before a crescent moon projection and covered in more than 7,000 Swarovski crystals, Australia's Delta Goodrem performed at the 70th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest. She became the first Australian act to qualify for the grand final since 2023.

Goodrem entered as an early favorite against strong contenders from Denmark and Finland. She sang a flawless version of her power ballad Eclipse. Of the 35 competing countries, 15 feature solo female performers, so Goodrem had to distinguish herself.

Her precise delivery stood out despite a safe approach. She walked downstage to a gold-sparkling piano and played a brief solo, though camera issues blocked the view. The performance peaked with a key change as the 41-year-old singer rose on a platform from inside the piano. Wind and fire effects highlighted her strong upper register in a confident showing after Australia's recent disappointments.

Australia first appeared at Eurovision in 2014 with Jessica Mauboy as an interval act in the semi-finals. Last year, Go-Jo failed to advance with Milkshake Man. In 2025, Electric Fields sang One Milkali (One Blood) in Yankunytjatjara, a language of the Aṉangu peoples, but also exited in the semi-final.

This year marks the fewest entries, 35, since 2003. Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Slovenia and the Netherlands boycotted over Israel's participation and its government's attacks on Gaza.

Before the semi-final, Goodrem said, "Performing on the Eurovision stage is something I feel so deeply in my heart, carrying Australia with me in every note and every moment." She announced her seventh album, Pure, for release on November 6.
