DeChambeau eyes YouTube growth, selective tournaments if LIV Golf folds

Bryson DeChambeau said he will focus on expanding his YouTube channel and play only tournaments that want him if LIV Golf does not survive.

Saudi Arabia announced it will pull its multibillion-dollar backing from the breakaway series at the end of the year, casting doubt on its future.

The 32-year-old American last week rejected reports that he plans to leave LIV before year's end as completely untrue.

From my perspective, I'd love to grow my YouTube channel three times, maybe even more, DeChambeau told ESPN ahead of this week's LIV tournament at Trump National Golf Club. I would love to do a bunch of dubbing in different languages, giving the world more reason to watch YouTube. And then I'd love to play tournaments that want me.

DeChambeau's contract with LIV expires at the end of this season. He had been negotiating a new deal reportedly worth $500 million (£370 million) before Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced plans to withdraw financial support.

The two-time U.S. Open winner said he was completely shocked by the PIF announcement. He had believed it would fund LIV Golf until 2032.

I haven't had any communication. And unfortunately, things are moving on in a different direction. Obviously, they wanted to move on, he said Tuesday.

LIV Golf split professional golf in 2022 by luring top players from the PGA Tour with big pay raises. The league now seeks new investment under an independent board.

DeChambeau joined LIV in 2022 and turned down a chance to return to the PGA Tour earlier this year through its returning member program.

The egos need to get dropped, DeChambeau said. Everybody needs to come in with a level-headed playing field, with an opportunistic mindset to grow the game of golf. That's why I came over here. That's why I do what I do on YouTube.
