Colombian Man Faces Vehicular Homicide Charge After DUI Crash Kills Georgia Father
A Colombian man living illegally in Georgia faces vehicular homicide, DUI and driving without a valid license charges after a crash that killed a father of two.
Deiby Jhonatan Janamejoy Jansasoy, 27, crossed the center line in his Ford Escape on May 1 and struck a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 47-year-old Michael Sharpe in Effingham County, northeast of Savannah, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office said.
The Department of Homeland Security said in a post on X that Janamejoy Jansasoy, a criminal illegal alien from Colombia, was arrested for vehicular homicide, DUI, and driving without a valid license after killing a Georgia father. "Janamejoy Jansasoy illegally entered our nation in 2023, and was RELEASED into the country under the Biden Administration — completely unvetted," the post said.
Sharpe, trapped inside his vehicle, was extracted by firefighters and taken to a hospital, where he died.
Janamejoy Jansasoy tried to leave the hospital before discharge, presumably because Immigration and Customs Enforcement wanted him for deportation, the sheriff's office said. "Due to this behavior and inherent flight risk due to attempting to leave, Jansasoy was immediately arrested and taken to the Effingham County Jail," the office said.
ICE has placed a detainer requesting local authorities not release Janamejoy Jansasoy without notifying ICE. He could face more charges.
