Chris Rabb wins Democratic primary for Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District
Philadelphia state Rep. Chris Rabb won the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District.
The district covers much of Center City, North Philadelphia and West Philadelphia. It is rated the most Democratic in the nation and is one of the few Black-majority districts in the country. Tuesday’s results point to a likely Democratic win in November.
Rabb, 56, represents Mount Airy and West Oak Lane. He received endorsements from progressive groups including the Working Families Party and Justice Democrats. Reps. Gregorio Casar of Texas, Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Maxwell Frost of Florida also backed him.
State Sen. Sharif Street finished second. Street, the son of former Mayor John Street, had support from Mayor Cherelle Parker, former Gov. Ed Rendell and the state Democratic Party. He is Muslim and earlier this year condemned an anti-Israel protest in Rittenhouse Square.
Dr. Ala Stanford, a former Biden administration health official, also ran in the race. She previously led a large COVID-19 vaccine site at Temple University’s Liacouras Center.
