Chinese National Extradited to South Korea Over Hacking Ring Targeting BTS's Jungkook
A Chinese national accused of leading a multi-million-dollar hacking ring that targeted BTS vocalist Jungkook has been extradited to South Korea.
Seoul's Justice Ministry charged the 40-year-old suspect with stealing 38 billion won ($25.4 million; £18.8 million) from various victims. The group hacked websites of government agencies and public figures.
The ring accessed a securities account in Jungkook's name. They attempted to transfer 8.4 billion won worth of shares he held in Hybe, the group's management company.
Hybe froze the account and blocked the transaction, South Korean media reported.
The hacking occurred between August 2023 and April 2025.
Other victims included the chairman of a major conglomerate and the head of a venture company, according to AFP.
Police said they will seek an arrest warrant after questioning the unnamed suspect and reviewing evidence. He had been based in Bangkok until the extradition.
In August 2024, a 36-year-old Chinese national from the same ring was extradited from Thailand.
