Cheerios, Coca-Cola, Mountain Dew and Oreo Launch Patriotic Products for US 250th Anniversary
Several major food companies have released limited-edition patriotic products ahead of America's 250th birthday celebrations this summer.
Cheerios, Coca-Cola, Mountain Dew and Oreo are among the brands offering special items for the semiquincentennial anniversary, according to Allrecipes.com.
Cheerios plans a birthday cake-flavored cereal in a red, white and blue box for early summer shelves. The cereal tastes like vanilla cake and includes red, white and blue sprinkles without artificial coloring. That aligns with the brand's push to remove all FD&C food, drug and cosmetic dyes from cereals by summer, Allrecipes reported.
General Mills first sold the cereal as Cheerioats in 1941 and renamed it Cheerios four years later.
The Coca-Cola Co. offers limited-edition America250 packaging with custom bottles and its first collectible mini-cans. Each mini-can highlights symbols from one of the 50 states, Puerto Rico or the District of Columbia, such as Georgia's peach or California's surfer culture.
PepsiCo, owner of Mountain Dew, has rebranded the soft drink as American Dew for the summer with American flag labels and packaging.
Oreo announced its Firecracker Pop cookie, a collaboration with Popsicle set for stores on May 4, Today.com reported. The cookie has blue raspberry, lemon and cherry creme between two golden cookies.
Instagram users reacted to the Oreo news. "Love that we have the 3-layered Oreos back!" one wrote. Another said, "Last time they did something like this, it was so gross! But I will try anyway." Others called it perfect for Fourth of July.
