Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski Overpowers Yankees with Record 103.6 mph Fastballs
Jacob Misiorowski took the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night and overpowered the New York Yankees with unprecedented velocity. The right-hander threw seven pitches at least 103 mph in his first inning alone, adding three more of that speed later in the game.
He topped out at 103.6 mph. Those seven pitches now rank as the fastest ever thrown by a starting pitcher in the Statcast era, which began in 2008, and all came against the Yankees. Three of Friday's pitches also rank as the ninth-, 11th- and 12th-fastest by a starter over the past 19 seasons.
Misiorowski struck out 11 over six scoreless innings. Shane Drohan pitched the final three innings for the save in Milwaukee's 6-0 victory.
Last week, Misiorowski carried a no-hitter through 5.1 innings in a 6-1 win over the Washington Nationals before a hamstring cramp ended his night. He managed five no-hit innings in his MLB debut last year but left that game due to cramps as well. In this start, he kept the Yankees hitless into the seventh.
The 24-year-old called it one of the top three performances of his major league career, which began less than a year ago. He beat 2025 NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes and three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw in head-to-head matchups as a rookie. Last year, he posted a 1.50 ERA in three postseason appearances.
"It's just adrenaline," Misiorowski said. "That’s all it is. You start getting hyped up and you want to perform for your teammates behind you because they're doing the same for me. That’s the whole goal."
Brewers manager Pat Murphy offered another view on why Misiorowski performs best in big spots. "Miz is interested in being great," Murphy said. "And he's in that process of being great."
