Zara Larsson closed the main stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Sunderland on Saturday night with a high-energy set drawn from her latest album, Midnight Sun.

The Swedish singer mixed new tracks with older hits including Stateside and Ain't My Fault. Her dancers performed the same choreography used on her current world tour, and the crowd at Herrington Country Park responded with sustained movement.

Larsson continued a regular show tradition by inviting a fan onstage for the Lush Life dance. Kayleigh, who had traveled to three U.S. concerts to see the singer, received a custom T-shirt before the pair performed the routine together.

It was Larsson's fourth appearance at Big Weekend and her first time headlining a major European festival, according to BBC Radio 1. She first gained attention after winning Sweden's version of Britain's Got Talent in 2008 at age 10. Lush Life became a major hit in 2016 and returned to the charts this year, reaching number three amid renewed interest in that period.

She finished the set with the title track from Midnight Sun and her 2017 collaboration with Clean Bandit on Symphony. Before leaving the stage she told the crowd, "Summer isn't over... summer has just started."

Earlier on the same stage, Lola Young performed for the first time at a festival since collapsing during a show in New York last September. The 25-year-old London singer said it felt good to be back and closed with Messy, the track that earned her a Grammy for best pop solo performance.

James Blake played the New Music stage with a set that included Godspeed, Retrograde and I'll Come Too. Mitski drew a large afternoon crowd to the same stage and reminded fans to stay hydrated and bend their knees.

Ellie Goulding opened the main stage with a run of older hits including Burn, Love Me Like You Do and Starry Eyed. Louis Tomlinson later performed One Direction's Night Changes, drawing a loud response from fans.
