Two Navy jets collide at Idaho air show, crew members stable
Four crew members are in stable condition after two US Navy EA-18G jets collided mid-air during an air show near Idaho's Mountain Home Air Force Base.
The jets were performing an aerial demonstration when they crashed on Sunday, the second and final day of the Gunfighter Skies air show, about 2 miles northwest of the base. All four crew members safely ejected, a US Navy spokesperson told CBS News.
A fire broke out after the collision and the base was briefly locked down. The rest of the air show was cancelled. An investigation is underway.
The aircrew involved in the incident are in stable condition, Mountain Home Air Force Base said in a statement posted on social media.
The jets were assigned to an electronic attack squadron from Washington state. The Navy says each EA-18G Growler costs about $67 million.
No one at the base was hurt, said Kim Sykes of Silver Wings of Idaho, which helped organize the event.
