Trump-Backed Candidates Win All GOP Primaries

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that candidates he backed won every GOP primary race Tuesday.

"We won all races last night. Every one of them," Trump told reporters.

Trump-backed Ed Gallrein defeated Rep. Thomas Massie in the Republican primary for Kentucky's 4th Congressional District. Massie had represented the district for 14 years and had often criticized Trump on foreign policy and other issues.

Gallrein won by nearly 10 points in a race that had been expected to be closer. He thanked Trump at his victory event and said his focus was on advancing the president's agenda.

White House communications director Steven Cheung posted after the result that people should not doubt Trump's political power.

Republican strategist Ryan Williams told Fox News Digital that the Republican Party belongs to Trump and that crossing him leads to defeat. He said Trump's grip on the party has grown stronger.

Trump also backed Rep. Andy Barr, who won the Republican Senate nomination in Kentucky to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell. Sen. Tommy Tuberville won the GOP nomination for governor in Alabama.

In Georgia, Republican Lt. Gov. Burt Jones finished first in the gubernatorial primary but will face a runoff next month against businessman Rick Jackson. In Alabama, Trump-backed Rep. Barry Moore will also compete in a runoff for the Republican Senate nomination.

Trump endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican Senate primary runoff against Sen. John Cornyn. The winner will face state Rep. James Talarico in the general election.

Some Republicans worry that Trump's choices in primaries could hurt the party's chances in the midterm elections this fall, when it will defend narrow majorities in the House and Senate.
