Investigators in Montgomery County, Texas, arrested capital murder suspect Bobby Charles Taylor Sr. this week in a breakthrough on a cold case that had gone unsolved for nearly four decades.

Taylor, 60, was taken into custody in Mexico after DNA technology advancements pointed deputies to him in the September 1986 killing of 16-year-old Deanna Ogg from Porter, Texas. Ogg left home around 5 p.m. that day to attend a family party. Two hours later, children found her body seven miles away along a logging road in a small town north of Houston. She had been sexually assaulted, beaten and stabbed, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

A man arrested the next month was convicted in the case, but later DNA testing cleared him, the agency added.

Forensic genetic testing eventually matched Taylor's DNA from the scene. In March 2020, the Texas Rangers selected Ogg's case for the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative program. The next year, previously tested evidence went for advanced DNA analysis and genealogy research at Bode Technology.

Investigators identified Taylor as the suspect in 2024. "Upon his identification, investigators learned that Taylor was a fugitive from justice on an unrelated felony charge and was believed to be hiding in Mexico," Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and other agencies obtained charges for bond jumping. Taylor surrendered on an unrelated felony charge on April 24, 2026, in Mexico City.

At a Wednesday news conference, authorities showed seven mugshots of Taylor from arrests dating back to 1985 and as recent as 2020. Ogg's mother attended the event. Doolittle read a letter from her that said in part, "Deanna wasn't on this earth for a long time. She was here for a good time. Her love of Jesus and love of family has withstood a lifetime."
