Princess of Wales Arrives in Italy for First Overseas Trip Since Cancer Treatment

Catherine, Princess of Wales, arrived Wednesday in Italy for her first foreign trip since undergoing cancer treatment. She greeted crowds in Reggio Emilia as she returned to the world stage after years away.

Catherine announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and later revealed she had completed six months of chemotherapy.

Kate, as she is widely known, has eased back into public life through select appearances, sharing aspects of her recovery.

For this overseas journey, she selected northern Italy for a two-day visit centered on early childhood development, a personal priority. The trip aligns with the international expansion of The Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood. Catherine planned to examine local methods emphasizing creativity and relationships in young children.

Her arrival carried added weight. In London, her father-in-law, King Charles III, who is also receiving cancer treatment, performed a key royal duty that day by delivering the King's Speech to open a new session of Parliament.

Catherine, whose husband Prince William is the heir to the throne, called the Reggio Emilia visit a "special trip" in an Instagram post.

Her previous official overseas tour came in 2022 with a trip to Boston for the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.

She praised local leaders for their "world-leading approach to learning, encouraging children to 'live' connection" and noted they understand "that investment in early childhood is of critical importance."

During the visit, she was set to meet families, educators and community leaders involved in early childhood development in the city.
