Police Shoot Man Dead in Bedford After Overnight Standoff

A man died after police shot him in Bedford following an overnight standoff, Bedfordshire Police reported.
Officers responded to reports of damaged vehicles on Aylesbury Road around 10:40 p.m. Monday. Despite hours of efforts to engage the man and resolve the situation safely, he presented a weapon, and police fired around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The man was pronounced dead shortly before 10:30 a.m., police said. The force has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
