Mourners gathered in Sydney for the first funerals of victims from Sunday's mass shooting at Bondi Beach.

Ten-year-old Matilda, the youngest victim, was remembered by family, friends and the community. Her mother paid tribute to her daughter at a flower memorial on Tuesday evening, calling the situation "just a nightmare."

Rabbi Eli Schlanger, who was British-born, was farewelled at a service at the Chabad of Bondi. His father-in-law, Rabbi Ulman, delivered an emotional eulogy and said he hoped his son-in-law knew how loved he was. Mourners described his death as an "unspeakable loss."

The attack killed 15 people. Police reported 11 or 12 deaths in separate accounts, plus one gunman, with 29 people hospitalized including a child. It targeted the Jewish community at a Hanukkah event.

New footage showed the 11-minute horror as gunmen fired from a bridge in a nearby carpark. Verified video and drone shots captured eyewitnesses tackling and disarming a shooter. Correspondent Joe Inwood detailed how the incident, Australia's worst mass shooting in nearly three decades, unfolded minute by minute.

Sydney residents responded with a mountain of flowers and candles at Bondi. Wait times to donate blood reached seven hours the day after the attack.

Jewish Australians told the BBC that Bondi serves as a sanctuary for their community. BBC correspondent Katy Watson reported from the scene and the gunmen's house in the Sydney suburb of Bonnyrigg as police investigated.
