Labour MPs Rebel Against Starmer as Four Ministers Resign

A growing number of Labour MPs have turned against Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Some demand his resignation. Others want him to announce a timetable for leaving office.

Four ministers resigned, including Home Office Minister Jess Phillips. The others are Zubir Ahmed, health minister; Alex Davies-Jones, victims minister; and Miatta Fahnbulleh, minister for devolution, faith and communities.

Labour's rules for ousting a leader call for 81 MPs to back a single challenger. More than 80 MPs seek Starmer's resignation. No opponent has drawn unified backing so far.

In a separate move, 100 backbenchers and junior ministers signed a statement. It declares this is "no time for a leadership contest".

The ministers who resigned are Jess Phillips, safeguarding minister; Zubir Ahmed, health minister; Alex Davies-Jones, victims minister; and Miatta Fahnbulleh, minister for devolution, faith and communities.
