Jury discharged in Manchester Airport police assault retrial
A retrial jury has been discharged after failing to reach verdicts in the case of two brothers accused of assaulting a police officer at Manchester Airport.
Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, both from Rochdale, denied assaulting Greater Manchester Police constable Zachary Marsden at the car park pay station area of terminal two on 23 July 2024.
Police approached the brothers at the pay station after an earlier incident at a coffee shop, Liverpool Crown Court heard.
The jury had been told it could return a majority verdict, but jurors were discharged after nearly 20 hours of deliberation.
The brothers told the court they had acted in lawful self-defence or in defence of the other.
The case was adjourned until 29 May to allow the Crown Prosecution Service time to decide whether to seek a third trial.
