Hurricanes even Stanley Cup Final at 2-2 with 5-3 win over Golden Knights
The Carolina Hurricanes evened the Stanley Cup Final at two games each with a 5-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 4 on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.
Jordan Staal scored twice for Carolina. His second goal broke a 3-3 tie with 13:39 left in the third period after a turnover by Shea Theodore in the Golden Knights zone. Seth Jarvis picked off the puck and fed Nikolaj Ehlers, who passed to Staal. Staal fell but still got a backhand shot past goalie Carter Hart.
Staal became the first player in 44 years to score in each of the first four games of the Stanley Cup Final. Ehlers later added an empty-net goal to seal the win.
The Hurricanes led 3-1 after the first period. Logan Stankoven scored 1:06 into the game, Jackson Blake scored next, and Staal added a power-play goal at 12:48. Mark Stone scored for Vegas in the opening period.
Vegas tied the game in the second period. William Karlsson scored his third goal of the playoffs, and Brett Howden scored his 14th to make it 3-3.
Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour started Brandon Bussi in goal over Frederik Andersen. Bussi made seven saves on 20 shots in his first appearance of the series.
Game 5 is scheduled for Thursday at the Lenovo Center in Carolina.
