Harris Backs Release of DNC's 2024 Election Autopsy Despite Party Leader's Refusal
Former Vice President Kamala Harris backs releasing the Democratic National Committee's 2024 election report, even though party leaders have refused.
As Harris eyes another presidential run, she told donors she supports public release of the DNC's autopsy on her failed 2024 campaign, according to a person familiar with the conversations. NBC News first reported the comments Thursday.
The report followed repeated requests within the party for DNC Chair Ken Martin to release findings on Democrats' failures in the presidential election. Harris has not raised the issue with Martin, NBC reported. She learned of his decision to withhold it only after it was made, the source said. Fox News Digital confirmed the report with another source familiar with the matter.
Martin ordered the 200-page analysis in February 2025, soon after taking over as DNC chair. It drew from more than 300 interviews across 50 states. But in December, he announced he would not release the results publicly.
The New York Times reported in July that the autopsy would avoid examining strategic choices in the Democratic presidential campaign. Those included whether President Joe Biden should have stayed in the race longer or dropped out sooner, and whether Harris was the right replacement.
In a recent Pod Save America interview, Martin played down the report. He said the party had already absorbed its lessons.
"The reality is, there's no smoking gun here. And as much as people would like to keep focusing in on those pieces, what they're ignoring is that we're sharing out the lessons. We have been incorporating those, and we have actually been putting those lessons into action, which I'm most proud of," Martin said.
