Five-star tackle Mark Matthews commits to Texas A&M
Five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews announced his commitment to Texas A&M on Friday afternoon.
Matthews, a senior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, had long been viewed as a likely choice for Miami. The Aggies gained ground in recent months and secured his pledge.
His announcement included an extended hat ritual that drew sharp criticism from Miami supporters and other fans. Many called the display excessive and unnecessary.
Matthews is the second five-star prospect to commit on Friday. Defensive lineman David Folorunsho chose Notre Dame.
Miami fans expressed frustration over losing a top in-state lineman who lives less than an hour from campus. Some noted that Matthews may not have fit the program’s culture anyway.
