Doug Jones Wins Democratic Nomination for Alabama Governor
Doug Jones, the former Democratic senator from Alabama, won the Democratic nomination for governor on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
It has been nearly three decades since a Democrat won a gubernatorial election in Alabama. The last victory came in 1998 when former Gov. Don Siegelman took office.
Jones will now face a steep challenge in the general election against Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who easily won the Republican nomination. The race is to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Kay Ivey.
