The man accused of trying to kill President Donald Trump and Cabinet members at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner on April 25 may have acted partly due to the conflict in Iran.

A preliminary Department of Homeland Security intelligence report, viewed by Reuters, states that suspect Cole Allen held multiple social and political grievances. It adds that the war in Iran may have contributed to his decision to carry out the attack.

Labeled a Critical Incident Note, the report came from a public records request by the nonprofit Property of the People. It referenced Allen's social media posts about the Iranian war to support its assessment.

DHS shares these notes to communicate information and intelligence quickly to federal, state and local authorities, the agency told Fox News Digital. The reports alert partners to the latest details after significant incidents affecting homeland security. DHS does not publicly comment on information in internal law enforcement communications.

Authorities say Allen expressed anti-Trump views in a manifesto. Minutes before the attack, he sent a pre-scheduled email to family and friends explaining his actions.

In the email, Allen acknowledged his mission would likely cause him severe harm but did not say he was willing to die for his cause. He described his motivations as political and portrayed himself as a savior for those oppressed by the current administration.

Allen apologized to family, friends and others he met during his cross-country trip. He said he hoped certain people would avoid the crossfire and called himself friendly.

Security footage shows Allen descending from his 10th-floor room at the Washington Hilton and entering a lobby outside the ballroom at 8:36 p.m. on April 25. He charged through a magnetometer and fired one shot from a 12-gauge shotgun.

A pellet from the buckshot hit a Secret Service agent's ballistic vest. The agent suffered no serious injuries.

One agent fired five rounds at Allen but missed. Allen fell and was taken into custody. He remains in a Washington, D.C., jail and faces arraignment on May 11.

Fox News Digital contacted Allen's attorney.
