CIA Whistleblower to Testify on COVID-19 Origins Cover-Up Before Senate Committee
A whistleblower from the CIA is scheduled to testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday about an alleged cover-up of COVID-19 origins.
The unnamed longtime CIA employee will address claims that the cover-up extends deep into the federal government and intelligence community. The hearing forms part of Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., efforts to scrutinize former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci's role in investigating the virus origins, his pandemic response, and federal government actions.
The session comes after the Department of Justice deadline to charge Fauci for allegedly lying to Congress about gain-of-function research, which alters a virus's genetic code to increase transmissibility and virulence in relation to COVID-19. That statute of limitations expired Monday.
"The DOJ may never act, but the American people know the truth: Fauci misled and defrauded this country," Paul said on X. "I won't stop uncovering the truth around the great COVID cover-up. That's why I will have a whistleblower testify before my committee this Wednesday."
Fauci has denied accusations that he lied about the National Institutes of Health funding research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. He maintains the work did not qualify as gain-of-function research.
Last month, the Department of Justice indicted David Morens, a longtime Fauci advisor and top NIAID official, for using a personal email account to conceal communications on a coronavirus research grant involving Wuhan Institute collaboration.
Paul told the New York Post the whistleblower, assigned to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, worked on a group studying the pandemic's start in Wuhan and will detail an alleged "deep state" conspiracy to hide the origins.
