Brewers Pitcher Throws Fastest Starter Fastball in MLB History
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski threw the fastest pitch ever recorded by a starting pitcher in MLB history during Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 104.5 mph fastball came on a 2-2 count to Phillies leadoff hitter Kyle Schwarber in the top of the first inning. Schwarber fouled the pitch off on a check swing, and catcher William Contreras held onto it for the strike call. Schwarber argued the ruling, but the speed drew the most attention.
All five pitches Misiorowski threw to Schwarber in the at-bat topped 103 mph, including another at 104 mph that was called a strike.
The mark falls short of the overall MLB record for fastest pitch, which belongs to Aroldis Chapman. The left-hander threw a 105.8 mph fastball for the Cincinnati Reds in 2010 during his rookie season.
