ADL Reports Drop in Antisemitic Incidents but Rise in Deadly Attacks in 2025
Antisemitic violence grew more lethal in 2025 despite an overall drop in incidents, the Anti-Defamation League reported in its annual audit.
The ADL tallied 6,274 antisemitic incidents across the U.S. last year, an average of 17 per day. That included 203 assaults, with 32 involving deadly weapons—a 39 percent rise from 2024. The group also logged 4,003 harassment cases and 2,068 vandalism acts. New York topped the list with 1,160 incidents, followed by California at 817 and New Jersey at 687.
The 2025 total marked a 33 percent decline from 9,354 incidents in 2024. Still, the ADL noted levels remained far above pre-Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel. Last year ranked third-highest after 2023 and 2024.
College campuses posted the biggest drop, with 583 incidents versus 1,694 in 2024—a 66 percent fall—as anti-Israel protests eased. The ADL has pressed universities to combat antisemitism and issued report cards on their efforts.
Just 45 percent of 2025 incidents linked to Israel or Zionism, down from 58 percent the year before. Cases at or near anti-Israel protests fell 67 percent but still hit 856.
Assaults reached a historic high despite fewer overall incidents. The toll included a May 21 shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., that killed Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky. On June 1, a firebombing severely hurt 82-year-old Karen Diamond, who later died.
"Our 2025 audit, which shows it was one of the most violent years for American Jews on record, is a reminder of how dramatically the threat landscape has shifted," ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said. "Numbers that would have shocked us five years ago are now our floor. People are being murdered because of antisemitism on American soil, and thousands more are threatened."
"Even as overall incidents declined, the surge in physical assaults is a stark reminder that a historically high level of antisemitism puts Jewish lives at risk," ADL Senior Vice President for Counter-Extremism and Intelligence Oren Segal said.
