ABC accuses FCC of First Amendment violation over 'The View' scrutiny
ABC is accusing the Federal Communications Commission of violating its First Amendment rights through scrutiny of its talk show "The View," according to a petition filed with the agency on May 7.
The broadcaster's petition states that the FCC has demanded ABC prove "The View" qualifies as a news program. Failure to do so could force ABC to provide equal airtime to every political candidate who requests it.
ABC argues that such a requirement would "chill critical protected speech."
