President Donald Trump said a deal to end fighting between the US and Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would be open to all once the deal is agreed. He added that at the appropriate time, when all is calm, the US would go in and get the nuclear dust and later destroy it.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei cast doubt on the timeline. He said officials would have to wait and see about the exact date of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, although it would not be tomorrow.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the deal was likely expected to be finalized within 24 hours. He said Pakistan was preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical level talks next week.

Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said a deal with the US was close. He said the agreement would end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and lift a US blockade of Iranian ports.

US officials confirmed some details of the agreement and said economic benefits for Iran would depend on Tehran meeting its obligations.

The war began with US and Israeli strikes across Iran on 28 February. Iran responded by attacking Israel and US-allied states in the Gulf and closing the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for oil and liquefied natural gas.

Iran has been accused by Western countries of trying to build a nuclear bomb. It has denied the accusations and said its program is for peaceful purposes.
