Mayweather Faces Felony Charges Over Alleged $200,000 Bad Check
Floyd Mayweather faces two felony charges in Las Vegas after prosecutors say he passed a bad check for a luxury watch.
Clark County prosecutors filed theft and fraud counts against the 49-year-old former boxer. The charges stem from a New Year’s Eve 2024 purchase at a Las Vegas boutique, where Mayweather allegedly bought a rare Audemars Piguet watch with a $200,000 check drawn on a Wells Fargo account.
The bank returned the check for insufficient funds. Store owners spent more than a year trying to collect payment and sent a certified demand letter, but Mayweather did not respond, authorities said.
A criminal summons was issued, and Mayweather’s lawyers appeared in court on his behalf Monday.
If convicted on both counts, Mayweather could face up to 24 years in prison. He also faces a $7 million federal tax lien, a recent court order to pay $1 million in back child support, and separate civil suits over unpaid private jet and apartment bills.
Mayweather has scheduled exhibition bouts and a September rematch against Manny Pacquiao.
