Incumbent Susie Lee wins Nevada’s 3rd District Democratic primary
Incumbent Rep. Susie Lee, D-Nev., won Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District Democratic primary Tuesday.
Lee’s district covers the southern end of the Las Vegas metro area and stretches through sparsely populated communities, including the late Sen. Harry Reid’s hometown of Searchlight. The seat carries a Cook Political Report rating of D+1 and ranks among the West’s most competitive swing districts.
Lee, whom Georgetown University’s Lugar Center ranks among the 10 most bipartisan members of Congress, faced James Lally, Terrill Robinson and Brandon West in the primary.
Republicans have criticized Lee for opposing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which reports said included hundreds of millions of dollars in support for rural Nevada entities. Lee has received backing from AIPAC and corporate donors such as Boeing, according to The Center Square.
Lally, a cardiologist, told the outlet that Lee’s reputation as a bipartisan lawmaker is a misnomer. He said she cannot “appease an authoritarian cult,” an apparent reference to Republican voters and Trump supporters.
Trump’s “No Tax On Tips” proposal has been a rallying cry for Republicans in the district, which includes some of the largest numbers of tipped workers of any precinct because of its proximity to the Strip.
Robinson, a Marine Corps veteran and former staffer for neighboring Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., is running because he believes Washington has stopped working for ordinary Americans. His campaign statement said he is concerned about the growing influence of corporate money, political self-interest and the erosion of transparency in government institutions.
West described working several jobs earlier in life, including at Carl’s Jr., the Transportation Security Administration and the Service Employees International Union, where he became a steward. He said his background has shaped how he understands people and that his top priority, if elected, is ending all U.S. aid to Israel. He has also called for decommissioning ICE.
Lee drew criticism recently for a now-deleted expletive-laden post on X against Trump after the president said he would attend oral arguments in the birthright citizenship Supreme Court case. She wrote shortly before 11 p.m. Mountain Time on March 31: “So f---ing f---ed up. I’ll pray they f--- him to his face. Sorry, I say f--- a lot these days.”
Lee later pushed back on critics who called her a “mentally-deranged psycho,” saying in a statement that her language touched a nerve because her nerve was touched by attacks on the Constitution and its separation of powers. She said she took an oath to protect and defend it.
