The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 on Sunday night to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in 20 years.

Taylor Hall scored three minutes into the game to give Carolina the lead. Jackson Blake made it 2-0 with under seven minutes left in the second period. Vegas managed only three shots on goal in that period.

The Golden Knights pulled goaltender Carter Hart with three minutes remaining, but Nikolaj Ehlers scored into the empty net to seal the win. Rookie Brandon Bussi made the saves needed to preserve the shutout.

Rod Brind-Amour became the 14th person to win a Stanley Cup as both a player and a head coach, and the first since Larry Robinson in 2000. He is also the seventh person to win the Cup coaching the team he won it with as a player, the first since Toe Blake with the Montreal Canadiens 70 years ago.

The Hurricanes reached the playoffs for the eighth straight season after missing the postseason in each of the prior nine years. They had lost three conference finals and three semifinals in that stretch.
